I'm translating in Italian language GWS BARROW'S book "Kingship & Unity - Scotland 1000-1300" together with an e-group based on a working-site that anyone can join in freely (it's not for money, just to exert skills) the webmaster posts then scanned pages to be sent back translated and added to the site. During my job I had to look around for many Scottish words not included in my wordbooks. Your site helped me a lot and I'll keep in touch with it even after the mere translating feat. Scot's language is wonderful... it reminds me somewhat a remote, deep in history, contact with my Roman ancestors that's still alive somehow. My regards... Francesco - Pesaro (Italy)

spent half a year in Glasgow after I had the pleasure of learning some Gaelic at my home university and fell in love with the people, the country and the Scottish language. As I will take my final exam in English next week with one of my topics being "The English Language in Scotland" I am very grateful having found this informative homepage -- taing!

Presently, I am editing a biography on David Livingstone and needed to verify the meanings of certain Scottish idioms that Livingstone used. I searched under "Scottish Idioms" and found your Web site. Thanks so much for providing this service. By the way, I am of Scottish descent—third generation of Scottish immagrants to the United States. Both my mother's side and father's side of the family hail from the Shetland Islands. In 1974, I had the priviledge to visit Scotland on a fortnight holiday from classes (I was on a semester study tour at Cambridge); it was a wonderful moment when I set eyes on the site of my grandfather's homestead just south of Lerwick. God's best to you. Ed
