I have just quoted your website as part of my honours 
English essay on Scots. I have translated a poem from 
English into Scots but have come to the conclusion that it is 
not a translation but a paraphrase because I understand 
dialects of Scots (parents native Glaswegian/ Lallans 
speakers) but not the constructions, accidence or syntax of 
the language. Thanks for a really useful website- I have been 
trying to argue that Scots is a language not a dialect and 
think I may just have succeeded!!!!
