Hi to all my Scots friends worldwide. I am Secretary of the 
Ulster-Scots Cultural and Historical Society based near 
Londonderry, Northern Ireland. We have plans to renovate an 
old house, the ancestral home of Colonel Adam Murray, a 
hero of the Siege of Derry, as a Educational Centre for the 
promotion of Ulster-Scots music, song, verse, dance and 
language.

I am very impressed with this site and thanks to our Ullans 
friend in Ulster, Ian James Parsley, I found it.

I am reading Gibbon's "A Scots Quair", and I want to know 
what is the meaning of quair. Can someone help.

I did find out the meaning of souter, which my Great 
Grandfather was called in Glenshee. In the illuminated 
farewell from the Glen in 1886 it was said he would miss the 
cry at the curling of "Weel done souter!"
